Barb Nelson
SWIS District Governor 2008-2009
Email: myhchili@tds.net
|
While ever an optimistic individual, Barb became a true Optimist as a Charter member of the Monroe Noon Club, formed September 30, 2002. She subsequently served her club as President and was awarded "Thief of the Year" by the Monroe Breakfast Club. She served the SWIS District as Lt. Governor and Banner Babe in 2004 receiving Distinguished Lt. Governor recognition.
Barb is the Director of Monroe Main Street, a Nationally Accredited downtown revitalization program. In addition to over fifty volunteers, Barb works closely with building owners, business operators, city and county officials, Green County Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the process of strengthen Monroe as a whole by reinvesting in the downtown. There is rarely a day when at least one individual within this group is not critical of a downtown element, but that is what has built the problem solving skills that Barb brings to our District as Governor. She has a passion for pulling people together and is excited to lead the SWIS District in President Sievers direction to "Give Me Five for the Kids".

OPTIMIST CREED |
Promise
Yourself-
- To be
so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
- To talk
health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
- To make
all your friends feel that there is something in them.
- To look
at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism
come true.
- To think
only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect
only the best.
- To be
just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you
are about your own.
- To forget
the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements
of the future.
- To wear
a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living
creature you meet a smile.
- To give
so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have
no time to criticize others.
- To be
too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for
fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
Written in 1912 by Christian D. Larson, adopted by Optimist International in 1922.
