Message from Governor John Fons:
I love old typewriters. I’m writing on one now, a 1954 Smith-Corona Silent portable. The reason I like old typewriters is they’re mechanical. All the pieces fit together and they all work together. Sort of like a SWIS District Quarterly Conference. You’ll see one in action this weekend, Feb. 18-19, at the Comfort Inn & Suites in DeForest. You have until February 15 at 5pm to register.
All the parts have been carefully put together in working order.
The rest is up to you.
Old friends will gather and Optimists who have never met will greet one another. Special Guest Rebecca Butler Mona, Optimist International President 2018-19, and her husband Mike from West Des Moines will be there; plus JOI Club members from Lake Mills will participate and thirteen (count ‘em) ukulele players from Waunakee will entertain during lunch, complete with sing-a-long. We’ll provide the lyrics. We’ll also provide other guest speakers and surprises. We’ll hear from a K-8 school counselor who wants to start a JOI Club in a Milwaukee school district where 70% of the students live in poverty.
You know what else I like about old typewriters?
When you get to the end of a line, a little bell rings.

The fantastic weekend planned for the Deforest conference will include the Friday February 18 Executive Meeting at 7 PM followed by an evening hospitality and the Saturday, February 19 conference.

Online registration is open during the registration dates shown above. When open, use the blue 'Register Online' button to submit your registration and pay online using our secure checkout process. This is our preferred choice as it allows us to manage the registrations and payment much more easily.
- Register Online, then Pay By Mail, Phone, or at the Conference:
Register during the open registration dates using the blue Register Online button. During the checkout process - simply select the option to Pay By Mail/Phone, or Pay At The Door. If you prefer to phone-in, mail, or pay at the door - by registering online you help us plan the necessary conference accommodations, make name badges in advance, coordinate seating and meals based on the number of members and guests registered in advance.
- Just show up:
Last minute attendees are always welcome at the door. (Limited lunches and choices available). While we prefer the online process so we can plan based on the number of people registering, we'll always have a door registration person at the conference and welcome walk ins.
